Set amongst the mountains and the famous red hills, in our own private nature reserve and surrounded by game reserves – a secret place of magnificent views, glorious sunsets, star filled nights without a single city light to distract you, wonderful encounters with wildlife, fabulous food, long nights around the blazing fire and yet a mere 15 minutes away from the bustling town of Oudtshoorn and even less to the major attractions of the region – from the breathtaking Swartberg Pass, to the wonders of Meiringspoort and everything else that makes Oudtshoorn the tenth most visited region in South Africa!

Zwartberg View Mountain Lodge is a destination in itself, a true retreat, an opportunity to loose oneself in an ancient landscape without foregoing any of the pleasures of being in a top rated lodge anywhere in Africa – personal service, well-appointed accommodation, good food, great service, good internet reception, and most of all, an opportunity to spend a few nights in an environment unlike anything else.

COTTAGES & CHALETS

If you are looking for a rustic, true African experience then you have come to the right place. There are just three chalets set on a hillside overlooking valleys where 10 species of game roam freely. You are surrounded by the famous Enon red hills, and you look directly onto the magnificent Swartberg Mountains. Each of the chalets has a private deck with armchairs and cushions, each decorated in a different animal theme.

PERFECT HONEYMOON HIDEAWAY

The Chalets are set 300 metres from the main lodge buildings. Dinner, breakfast is served at the Lodge. – this is where they encourage all wild animals to come close to guests which makes every evening a really special occasion. The Chalets are directly linked to two walking trails which takes you right into the hills and valleys and back to the Chalettes. The 4th Cottage is a self-catering Cottage tucked away in the river bed. It has its own fireplace, and you are completely secluded from the main lodge and other Chalets – but may of course join the other guests for breakfast or dinner, as you wish. This is a perfect honeymoon hideaway.

Please note that dinners are a set menu, usually served around 7pm and guests are encouraged to interact with each other. All meat comes off the fire, they do cater for vegetarians and vegans.

For many the opportunity to just sit on their private deck and let their imagination wander to what the world must have been like before people is more than enough, for others, there is a choice of three of the most wonderful walking trails imaginable that take in every aspect of the world’s recognised floral kingdoms. Of course, there is always a chance of an encounter with a Hartebeest bursting from cover, Zebra on a hillside, or coming across one of five Tortoise species found in this region! At sunset, magic happens!!!

Equipped with king bed as well as a bunk bed for 2 kids.

“You awake early in the morning, open the door and a Giraffe, Zebras and a Black Wild Beast are watching you. Could your day become better ? Yes ! Indeed ! Having a delicious breakfast on the terrace of the Lodge with fantastic mountain views. For your day follow Varley’s recommendations for activities or enjoy a really relaxing day at the pool, having a glass of cold white wine. We did it all and had a unforgettable days here.
