Tsitsikamma Village Inn, Garden Route

The Hotel’s Hunters Pub was a hunting lodge that was built in 1841 to accommodate hunters that walked into the area to hunt game in the surrounding forests. In 1860, Thomas Bain constructed the road from Plettenberg Bay to Kareedouw through the Tsitsikamma. This 184 km road took 4 years to complete with the help of 200 convicts. Just past the Tsitsikamma Village Inn is the original pass – at the time the pass was so narrow, it was only open to traffic in one direction each day. Travellers waiting for their turn used to outspan in the Hotel’s ground.

Nestled in Storms River Village, we have re-constructed a typical Cape Village of the past, where old traditions of warmth and hospitality thrive side-by-side with all the comforts of the modern day.  Visitors can delve into the past and select their accommodation in a typical Cape Village.

We offer 49 unique and individually decorated rooms. Each has its own individual garden that matches the specific style of gardening reminiscent to each individual colonial building style. Each room is tastefully decorated in the appropriate style for the period.

The Village Square offers beautifully decorated rooms, each unique in design. The building resembles traditional building styles of the early Cape Colon, and the rooms are decorated accordingly. You can opt for a sojourn in the imposing Cape Dutch style, the Drostdy or the Landdrost’s (magistrate’s) house. The style was prominent in the early days (17th century) of the Cape Colony, and the name derives from the fact that the initial settlers of the Cape were primarily Dutch. The style has roots in mediaeval Netherlands, Germany, France and Indonesia. Ornately rounded gables, reminiscent of features in townhouses of Amsterdam.  These room types sleep a maximum of two guests in twin/double beds.
