Each cottage at Saamrus has a special character, with every convenience to make your stay more comfortable and memorable. Most of the cottages are at least 50m apart, except Tarentaal and Kiewiet which are about 15m apart. We have used reeds and hedges for screening to give you maximum privacy and seclusion.

Units include the following:

A fenced garden for the dogs.

A private braai at each unit with an extra fire pit at most of the units.

Fireplaces in all cottages. Most cottages have ceiling fans or loose-standing fans. Some units have wall-heaters for extra heating in winter.

DSTV access in all units, please bring your own decoder and card.

Kitchens are fully equipped including: fridge, microwave, two-plate gas stove, kettle, toaster, pots and pans, crockery and cutlery, dishwashing liquid and dishcloths. Braai utensils are also supplied.

Bathrooms with showers and romantic baths for two (only in some cottages). Towels, soap, air freshener and toilet paper are supplied.

Firewood for sale. Staff on duty will deliver to your unit.

The 4 units at the foot of the hill

Tarentaal & Kiewiet

Tarentaal & Kiewiet cottages

Both ideal for a couple or two friends sharing (each sleeps 2)

These cottages are accessible by car.
At Tarentaal and Kiewiet cottages the views towards the woodland hill and the surrounding indigenous trees adds to the secluded atmosphere. The prolific bird life, and the easy access to the river and hillside walks, makes these cottages the ideal spot for a very relaxing getaway.

Each open plan bedroom/living room has a king-size bed (or two single beds), a dining-room table and comfortable chairs next to an inviting fireplace. Fully-equipped kitchens are separate from the bedroom/living room. The bathrooms are build with natural rock and have showers only.

Tarentaal and Kiewiet have a heart-warming history of many relaxing weekends enjoyed by regular guests and their pets!

Hoephoep

Hoephoep Cottage (Foot of the Hill)

Suitable for a couple or group of up to four (sleeps 2 – 4)

This cottage is accessible by car.

Hoephoep is a spacious, private cottage at the foot of the hill close to the river walks. Lovely veld grass and flowers decorate the meadow near the cottage in summer. The stoep facing the meadow and thick bush behind makes Hoephoep a lovely spot for bird watching and relaxing.

The spacious bedroom has a king-size bed, (or two single beds) and airy french doors onto the veranda. More french doors open from the open plan living room / kitchen / dining room to the patio and braai area. Two extra single divan beds can be prepared for extra guests sleeping in the lounge.

Bird watching can be done from the bath, as the romantic cement bath is right against the window with a magical view of the forest. The shower is over the bath. For the sake of privacy, the bathroom is off the passage, with doors closing off both the bedroom and living room.

The 6 units on the hill

Piet-my-vrou

Piet-my-vrou Cottage (60m uphill in the bush)

Ideal for a couple or two friends sharing (sleeps 2)

This cottage is only accessible by 4×4 or on foot.

This cozy and romantic open plan cottage was positioned with privacy and seclusion in mind. We built this one only half way up the hill, in the bush and away from the other cottages. The patio is surrounded by trees and is the ideal spot to sit and read a book or do some bird watching.

The bedroom/living room has a king-size bed (or two single beds) and a fireplace. There is a view of the mountains in the distance from the bathroom window and a romantic cement bath big enough for two. The shower is over the bath.

Piet- my-vrou is ideal for the couple that wants a cosy cottage with views, but don’t have a 4×4 to get uphill, as it is only a short uphill walk to the cottage.

Karee & Olienhout

Karee & Olienhout Cottages (On the Hill)

Both ideal for a couple or two friends sharing (each sleeps 2)

These cottages are only accessible by 4×4 or on foot.

Cozy and romantic are the right words to describe these gorgeous open-plan cottages, discreetly far enough away from each other for privacy and seclusion. The panoramic views give one a wonderful feeling of freedom and space.

Each bedroom/living room has a king-sized bed (or two single beds), with a fireplace and candles for that romantic night in. The bathroom has a view of the mountains in the distance and a romantic cement bath big enough for two. The shower is over the bath.
Karee and Olienhout are perfect for that romantic or undisturbed weekend away!

Akasia

Akasia Cottage (On the Hill)

Suitable for a couple or group of up to four (sleeps 2 – 4)

This cottage is only accessible by 4×4 or on foot.

To take advantage of the magnificent views from the hill, we couldn’t resist building more cottages. Akasia was the first ‘new’ cottage built on the hill. The bedroom has a romantic king size bed, (or two single beds for friend/family sharing). Two more single divan beds can be prepared in the open plan lounge.

For the sake of privacy, the bathroom is off the passage with doors closing on both sides towards the bedroom and living room. The bathroom has a cement bath big enough for two and a shower over the bath. A candle holder with candles is supplied to add to the atmosphere.

From the open plan living lounge/kitchen/dining room, french doors open on to the charming veranda with pillars built from the natural rock found right at the spot. The views from the veranda are quite breathtaking.

Kiepersol

Kiepersol Cottage (On the Hill)

Suitable for a couple with 2 small children (sleeps 2 – 4)

This cottage is only accessible by 4×4 or on foot.

This is the oldest building on the hill, build at least 30 years ago from the natural rock found right at the spot. It has a thatched roof and a lovely down to earth atmosphere.

Kiepersol is open plan with a large rock built fireplace chimney in the centre separating the kitchen/dining area from the sleeping area. There is a double bed on one side of the room and two single bed/couches on the opposite side of the room. Curtains close off each sleeping area for privacy. The bathroom has a shower decorated with a mosaic mural.

This large thatched veranda has a lovely view and is ideal for relaxing and bird watching as it is surrounded by indigenous trees.

Suikerbos

Suikerbos Cottage (On the Hill)

Ideal for two couples or a group of up to six (sleeps 4 – 6)

This cottage is only accessible by 4×4 or on foot.

Suikerbos was our first cottage on the hill and guests keep coming back for its views, comfort and privacy. The large wooden deck with its wide mountain views is the ideal spot to have a meal and socialize or just relax and read a book.

There are double beds in both bedrooms and two single beds in the living room which can sleep two more guests. Both the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with showers only.

Planning a weekend away with family or friends to catch up on your socializing, or having a reunion to reconnect? Suikerbos at Saamrus is just the place to braai or cook together and relax on the veranda or in front of the fireplace, well into the night.

Many happy memories have been made at Suikerbos, resulting of course in many happy returns!
