These 4 luxury self-catering timber eco-chalets are powered by a combination of solar and wind. Because they have ample battery storage we seldom have problems with power outages.

There is a large open plan kitchen with dining and sitting areas and a fireplace, which open onto an expansive wrap-around deck with views across the reserve.  Each chalet has its own braai (barbecue) area.

Reflections Eco-Reserve is a conservation project –

Rehabilitating the land: –

Reflections Eco-Reserve is one of the biggest conservation projects on the Garden Route. There is an active land rehabilitation programme in place and the indigenous vegetation is already thriving. Each new season produces new plant highlights and furthers our goal of greater plant diversity. The aim is to remove non-native vegetation and try to restore the land, as much as possible, to a wild state. 42-hectares has been cleared and planted in excess of 3 500 trees. The resulting increase in birdlife has been phenomenal and regular sightings of caracal, bushbuck and bush pig are seen.

The Eco-Reserve are completely off the grid. Nature-friendly cleaning products gets used and this encourage recycling and waste separation by guests.

The aim of their reforestation program is to assist nature in returning this land back to its original state while using the processes of nature to off-set our carbon dioxide. Trees assist with the control of atmospheric carbon dioxide, which is influencing climate change, by incorporating it into their structure.

Large areas of the Garden Route have been swamped by invasive alien tree species. In order to assist in combating this the reserve are clearing pine and wattle trees and have begun planting the indigenous trees that used to occur. These are tree species that need very little water to survive as well as providing far more habitat to birds, insects and mammals. To date nearly more than 3,500 trees has been planted on Reflections Eco-Reserve.  All trees are sourced from an empowerment program for previously disadvantaged communities. Planting trees benefits animals, humans, our communities and the environment.

Activities for guests at Reflections Eco-Reserve

Nature walks, birding and mountain biking are just three of the activities that are popular with guests staying at Reflections.

Located on the Rondevlei and surrounded by the Garden Route National Park, Reflections Eco-Reserve has access to beaches, forests and mountains, so for visitors to the reserve there are many on-site and off-site activities. These range from beautiful nature walks and incredible birding on the reserve and surrounding area, to snorkeling in the rock pools at nearby Gericke’s Point, mountain biking in the forests and whale watching excursions which take you through The Heads of the Knysna Lagoon and into the ocean beyond.

Birding at Reflections Eco-Reserve and in the Garden Route

Reflections Eco-Reserve is one of the best places for birding in the Garden Route. Keep your binoculars and your bird book handy because the reserve has a wide range of habitats including wetlands, coastal bush and fynbos which are host to many of the 250 species of birds in the Garden Route.
