Bloukrans Klein-Bewarea, Groot Karoo

Bloukrans lies hidden in the southern part of the Moordenaarskaroo 30km north of Laingsburg. This mostly unspoilt landscape has breathtaking, enigmatic scenery, diversity, and a haunting sense of desolation. Here the Buffels River still plays a significant part in shaping the landscape during its episodic floods – as it has done for thousands of years – creating a canyon and exposing a massive rockface.
The 1000-hectare farm offers accommodation in three very individual Karoo-huisies. Each one has been beautifully restored, is unpretentious in style and character and captures the true essence of its surroundings perfectly.

Accommodation

Kliphuisie

In a way the shepherd’s hut pays tribute to a bygone era when a ‘skaapwagter’ had to face dangers and extreme conditions on his own. Elements of such a simple existence have been purposefully preserved. It is guests’ privilege to experience this simplicity as a different kind of luxury.

Modderhuisie

The mud house creates paintings of the Karoo through every window and door – shades of olive and sage, rust pink and grey, fossil brown and ochre. Spacious and comforting cottage.

Sinkhuis

Collected over time from all over the farm, the old rusted and discarded corrugated iron and somewhat askew window frames found a new purpose. Put together, its corners and walls are not square everywhere, and some even had to be patched, but now it can call itself a ‘home’.
Opening for self-catering soon!

    Dear Franci, Team and Family
Thank you for the most amazing weekend! We loved the walk to the krans, feeding the donkeys and simply sitting outside under all the stars! This place is pure magic and we will be back!

As someone who has lived (and farmed) the Karoo before, this was an outstanding experience. We came, in uncertain times, back to SA to visit, and it was worth it all the way!
