Buffalo Brooke Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga

Buffalo Brooke is in the prime spot of Mjejane Game Reserve, which is the last extensive tract of pristine indigenous bush along the Crocodile River, forming the southern part of world-famous Kruger National Park.

This self-catering lodge boasts 10 kilometres of undisturbed Crocodile River frontage, and guests have been lucky enough to view The Big Five, which are found throughout this region.  Herds of buffalo and elephant frequent the riverine area and predators such as leopard, lion, hyena and often wild dog are seen here. Waterbuck and other antelope such as kudu, bushbuck and impala are common. Plain’s game such as zebra and giraffe come to the river to drink particularly in the dry months of the year.

Bird spotting is a favourite sport among guests, and they are never disappointed with the variety of species in the area. Look at our gallery for some of our latest bird sightings. Along the length of the property adjoining the Kruger Park, the Crocodile River passes through reed beds, rocky fast-flowing channels and deeper pools. It is home to a high density of hippos and crocodiles. Where the river flows alongside the floodplain, the spotting of game coming to the river to drink is easy

What to pack

Buffalo Brooke is a five-star self-catering lodge in Kruger National Park. Although we’ve taken every endeavour to equip you with everything you could possibly need or want in this exclusive African bush lodge, here’s what to pack to bring along with you.

Swimming

The house supplies towels throughout, however, you will need to bring your own swimwear and safety accessories for children (sunblock and sunhats a necessity for all).

Seasonal necessities:

Blankets and a fire pit are available for wintery days and nights. For summer you’ll find aircon and fans throughout.

Malaria safety:

Mjejane is considered a malaria area and necessary malaria precautions must be taken by guests prior to arrival. Contact your local medical practitioner for advice before travel. While on-site, it is advised that you use regular mosquito repellents like Peaceful Sleep and Tabbard, available in local stores.

Groceries and stocking up supplies:

As Buffalo Brooke is a self-catering lodge, it is advisable to arrive with grocery staples such as your drinks, bread, milk and dinner for the evening to ensure you can sit back and relax immediately after your journey. Thereafter, stocking up on supplies is extremely easy as both Malelane and Komatipoort (20-minute drive) offer a host of shops, medical facilities and the like.

Direct delivery can be organised with either Spar or Pick ‘n Pay.

” We stayed here for an extended weekend and it was an Incredibly tranquil place to spend time with family and friends.
Very comfortable and quiet, with amazing views of the Crocodile River. There is always something to see whether it’s hippos bathing or the very active bird life.
The house is well equipped for a large group with everything you could possibly need for a self-catering stay. The staff are lovely and make the stay even more comfortable.
Oscar was our guide for the game drives and everyone loved him. A passionate and professional individual with great stories.
Would definitely go back one day!”

” We had a really wonderful time at Buffalo Brooke and the staff were all excellent.
Jacque was a phenomenal game ranger who was incredibly knowledgeable about the many different animals, plant species and bird life. He has an absolute love for the bush and the sightings. His enthusiasm is contagious and he brings humour to the day.
The lodge itself was very well equipped in the kitchen and there were a number of books and games available for use too. We also thoroughly enjoyed playing ping pong and pool and having the open plan space to hang out together.”
