Babylon’s Tower Shepherds Hut Hemel-en-Aarde valley, Overberg

Babylon’s Tower Shepherds hut is a cute, quaint and different experience for a quick break-away. Planning a romantic weekend away or just a one night’s visit to taste some of the valley’s best wines.

The hut is self-catering with all the basic things you need.

There is much about the history of the shepherd hut. These huts have been used for hundreds of years, by shepherds, allowing the shepherd to be protected from the elements whilst tending his flock during lambing seasons.

The hut was one big simple space with a stove for cooking and warmth and a bed for the night. Windows allowed the shepherd to keep an eye on his sheep, and a stable door, allowed him to hear them. Today shepherd huts are very desirable as tiny houses, chill-out zones, glamping

Enjoy leisurely walks through the orchards and unique Fynbos on the farm or take your mountain bike out on the rolling hills. The adventurous can hike to summit the peak of Babylon’s Tower and enjoy a spectacular view of the entire Overberg. The fully stocked trout dam always a winner for those looking for that BIG catch.

Take a refreshing swim in one of the farm dams, after a long meander through the famous  Hemel-en-Aarde valley’s wine farms. Wines of the highest quality and stature in the valley are sure to seduce your taste buds and make this a very enjoyable day out.

Looking for adventure there is plenty around. From touch yet wonderful scenic mountain bike and running trails to Forest Adventures, whale watching, sea kayaking, fly fishing and so much more – The famous Whale haven, Hermanus allows one to enjoy the best of both farm and town life not even 15min away.

    The cutest little Hut
There is nothing better for the soul, than getting into the country…. ?
I started my 2019 on a farm. Eco and solar. Off grid.
    Close to nature.
In the Hemel and Aarde Valley.
    Farm, quiet, peace……. ??
    In a hut…. I stayed in a Shepherds Hut.
It has been the best New Year adventure and experience.
And I would like to share some of it with you.
Happy NEW Year. ???- Tracy McWilliams
