Stay in one of three cabins at a completely unique, professionally-designed property in Hout Bay with magnificent outdoor spaces. Enjoy incredible sea and mountain views, surrounded by beaches, sand dunes, mountains and fynbos, while close being to the town of Hout Bay and the Cape Town CBD

The Sentinel

6 guests | 2 baths | 4 beds | 2 bedrooms

This is a completely unique, architect-designed 2 bedroomed wooden cabin with magnificent outdoor spaces in Hout Bay, finished during the lockdown. It is intended to carry a small footprint and be experienced as cabin perched in the natural surroundings of mountains and fynbos.

This is a completely unique, architect-designed 2 bedroomed wooden cabin with magnificent outdoor spaces in Hout Bay, finished during the lockdown. It is intended to carry a small footprint and be experienced as cabin perched in the natural surroundings of mountains and fynbos.

You will not find a property like this anywhere in Cape Town. It is a loft build with steel, glass and wood, and has a sea and mountain views from every room including the scullery!

The house comprises a bedroom and en suite bathroom, along with a kitchen, scullery, dining room, lounge and large outdoor deck. Upstairs is the main bedroom en suite and an open mezzanine chill area with work-from-home office and 2 additional beds organised in a bunk bed style.

The property boasts external cameras, linked alarm system and electric fencing all around as well as remote-controlled smart access. The house itself is very secure, with a solid wooden front door, steel sliding doors and shatterproof extra thick glass. Solid wooden bedroom doors have been reinforced internally with steel and wooden shutters in the bedroom are lockable so you can sleep with the doors open.

Sentinel guests have access to the entire cabin, the deck, the ecopool and the garden seating area, as well as to a parking bay.

The Sentinel is our home, which we do rent out from time to time, especially during year-end holidays and long weekends. The Sentinel is also available to rent mid week and from time to time, on weekends, either when we are away or when we stay on the property in one of the other cabins. We prefer to take Sentinel bookings via Air BnB from verified guests with positive reviews or from past guests we have engaged with.

For guests wishing to have the exclusive use of the entire property (either to book all 3 accommodations, or just the Sentinel but have no one else on site) please send us an enquiry on availability and pricing.

The Fynbos Pod

This is a completely bespoke 8x3m wooden cabin perched on a hill of fynbos with 270 degree views the incredible Chapmans Peak mountains, Sandy Bay dunes and beach of Hout bay.

Finished during 2021, it was designed and thought out over a long time to be exactly what a magical adventure to a far-off place should be: a bit of glamourous rustic, a bit of luxury, a bit of originality, and lot of practical functionality, with incredible views.

Enter the pod up the stone stairs, across the wooden deck and up the wooden ramp. Leave your shoes in a nook by the entrance to keep a clean, shoe-free zone, and hang your coats and keys behind the front door.

Behind a solid wood, locally crafted barn door, is the beautifully designed bathroom with a uniquely-tiled shower, stone basin atop a purpose-build wooden pedestal and toilet. Hang up or fold away your clothes, lay out your shoes, and keep your suitcases out of the way at the top of the open twin cupboard spaces.

The kitchenette punches well above its weight for its size, and boasts beautiful, locally-crafted wooden counters and shelving, as well as a rustic concrete basin home-made from the sand outside. Crockery, cutlery and all the basics needed for self catering are found on the open shelves. A pantry cupboard hides away any clutter, groceries, cleaning items and internet access points. The red fridge in the corner makes a statement, while a mini dishwasher is a rare jewel for those who hate washing dishes on holiday.

The lounge area has a tiny wood-fired closed-combustion fireplace with a basket of wood, as well as a comfortable hand-crafted wooden couch with magnificent views. The couch has an additional feather mattress topper and can double up as a comfortable single bed for a third person if booked accordingly.

Step up to your sleeping platform, read a book or wake up to a magical sunrise, watching the panoramic sea and mountain views. The quality mattresses can be configured as a connected singular king bed for individuals or couples (default), or as twin beds for single travellers.

Drink your coffee in the morning, enjoy your meals or (try to) work on your laptop under a unique chandelier, at the versatile coffee bar with incredible views of the mountains and sea. The sliding windows all open in any direction, for the living outdoors feeling.

If this isn’t enough to entice you, enjoy an outdoor shower after a hot hike or long day at the beach, or pop a few logs into the wood-fired coil to warm up your own personal concrete hot bath (for one or two) while watching the fading sun paint the Chapmans Peak mountains pink and the bay a pale silver in the fading light.

If it’s not a windy day, enjoy a braai and al fresco dining on the wooden deck before retiring for the evening.

Please respect other residents/guests on the property and their privacy. Except for the pod and personal deck, the rest of the garden is not for guest use. However, please feel free to ask us if you would like to try anything out of our kitchen garden.

The Reservoir Pod

This micro pod was built off-site by a talented team and co-designed with the property owner with sustainability and affordability in mind. The pod is set atop the property’s water reservoir, reclaiming unused space intended primarily as a daily second work-from-home and secondly as an additional guest space for rental.

The compact pod (14.5m2 interior) is built from solid reclaimed pine, is black charred on the outside, has a corrugated roof and boasts folding doors that open up 3m to an outdoor deck with mountain and sea views.

The pod offers a comfortable queen bed, wardrobe space, compact bathroom with some unique features (like the rustic, home made concrete basin, using sand from the property) and a functional if tiny kitchenette complete with bar fridge, gas stove, microwave, sink, basic cooking utensils, shelf and counter space, and a storage cupboard.

Space has been made to accommodate shoes, coats, hats and keys and offers a dedicated work-from-home area as well as a mini wood-burning closed combustion fireplace.

The deck has a gorgeous view of the sea and a rustic table and chairs. The fire pit area in front of the pod is available to pod guests.

The micro pod is perfect for anyone wanting to visit Cape Town while “working-from-home”, visiting Cape Town for business or looking for an affordable holiday on a magical property.

Please respect other residents/guests on the property and their privacy. Except for the pod, personal deck and fire pit area, the rest of the outdoor areas garden is not for guest use. However, please feel free to ask us if you would like to try anything out of our kitchen garden.

The Reservoir pod is built on top of our water reservoir. During summer, we require more irrigation and water for the eco pool and this has to be replenished by pumping water into the reservoir twice a week for a few hours, usually on Mondays and Thursdays.

“Beautifull location on the Hill side overlooking the Bay. Three Tiny houses that are fully equiped and all you need is there. You can park inside on the premisses but outside the gate is fine as well. We stayed three nights and enjoyed it much. From here trips to Cape Town, Muizenberg and the south point of Kaap de Goede Hoop are easilly made. Friendly people and a great place to add to a vacation!”

“My husband and I spent 3 incredible & tranquil days at the Cabins- The pods are beautifully rustic- with indescribable views over Hout Bay. We loved the outdoor bath & shower, and the regular visits from the chicken & dogs. A real highlight was our braai experience – where Alana & her wife prepared us some local meat- which was so delicious and something really different- would highly recommend!”
