AfriCamps at Kam’Bati is situated on an Overberg farm about 20km west of Swellendam. The Sonderend River and Breede River meet on the property and our 5 luxury Boutique Camping tents are located in a beautiful and quiet patch of forest close to the river. AfriCamps at Kam’Bati is a birder’s paradise and the perfect getaway for the adventurous family. The river is perfect for canoeing and fishing, and the whole family can enjoy mountain biking on the farm roads. There is a shared swimming pool with slides for the children, and outdoor wood-fired hot tubs next to each tent, while the picturesque town of Swellendam is only a short drive away. *Please note that when the river flows very strongly, we advise not to drink the water in the tents. Guests can purchase bottled water at the reception area at a discounted price for your stay.

Swellendam is not only the largest youngberry growing area in the world, but is also bursting with heritage, culture & architecture. Visit the famous open-air Drostdy Museum or enjoy the view of the Dutch reformed church, one the best-known historical buildings of town. Perhaps you feel more like an exciting river rafting tour along the Breede River. On the fringe of the town you will find the Bontebok National Park and the Marloth Nature Reserve; nature parks that provide various possibilities for hiking, horse riding, and bird watching. Swellendam is also well known for its vibrant food culture, with plenty of restaurants offering everything from traditional farmers food to coffee shops serving delectable cakes and fine-dining experiences.

Lying at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains, Swellendam is the perfect base from which to explore the Overberg Region and the surrounding winelands. This includes Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of Africa and meeting point between the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean, and De Hoop Nature Reserve where you can hike, swim, mountain bike, quad bike and go bird watching or game viewing. Our boutique glamping camp can be reached from Cape Town in just over 2 hours which makes it the perfect weekend destination as well as a great stopover on your way to the Garden Route.

AFRICAMPS TENTS

AfriCamps tents are proudly produced and handcrafted in South Africa, providing an attractive accommodation option to those who like the freedom of the great outdoors but don’t necessary want to rough it. With all the comfort of a permanent structure – proper furniture, bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and a solid wooden floor – they still preserve the romance and atmosphere of staying in a tent.

AfriCamps tents consist of a spacious open plan lounge area with a comfortable couch and a fully equipped kitchen. The dining room area has a solid wooden table with enough seating for 5 people. For winter months the fireplace will be the perfect way to warm up the tent, bringing in an intimate setting for you and your love ones.

Both bedrooms are furnished with a queen size bed and have their own private entrance which allows maximum privacy. One of the bedrooms also contains an extra single bunk bed, so the tent will comfortably sleep a family of 5. Our tents are equipped with an air conditioning unit to keep you cool during those hot summer nights and a private bathroom with a hot shower cabin, washbasin and flushing toilet.

The private wooden deck at the front of the tent comes with comfortable wooden loungers from where you can overlook the peaceful natural surroundings of a working farm or beautiful estate. When days get warmer you can pull up the front covers and transform the tent into a big outdoor living area. Here you can unwind and appreciate a festive family breakfast while enjoying the beautiful weather and taking in the serene natural beauty of the South African landscape.
